Planning

Today I am planning out where I will put everything on my tri-fold board. Since this is the second to last Friday of 20% Time for us, I need to start finishing things up. I will put each drawing on the outside flaps of the tri-fold board. On the middle part, I will have my title and my name. I will also write things about why I chose to do this project and why I like it. We'll see how it turns out!

Not Much Today

Today I don't have much to do, I am checking the drawings to see if they're as high quality as I want them to be when I finish. My biggest successes in this project are how the drawings look. they loom amazing to me. If I could go back in time and change something in this project, it would be to get my tri-fold board faster so i could have more time to design it.

6. Flounder from The Little Mermaid

Today I drew Flounder. It was looking great and then I leaned back and realized the forehead was the size of China. I had already shaded in the eyes, too. So I was forced to erase the eyes and move them up and make them bigger. It looks fine now, but there are eraser marks visible...

5. Snoopy from Charlie Brown

Snoopy looks good, but he can't look really that good because he's so simple. He doesn't have much detail except for his three fingers, tail, and shaded ears and nose. I drew some sunglasses on him and i think they're pretty great. This sketch connects to my past because as a kid  my parents would put on Charlie Brown's Christmas and Thanksgiving on the TV all the time. I loved the show.

4. Pluto from Mickey Mouse

I drew Pluto today and the drawing is amazing. It's probably one of my best sketches of all time. I love looking at it. He looks so much like the real things its almost as if he actually is animated. Even though this drawing looks great, I have also  had some difficulties during this project. Sometimes its hard to make something look like how I pictured it in my head. I might have to erase one part and restart several times before I get it how I want it. It gets pretty frustrating.

3. Deadpool

I drew Deadpool today. He doesn't look as good as the others because I had to rush on him a little. Even though Deadpool looks a little scrappy, I have had success in this project with how most of the characters look. This project is exciting for me because I can't wait to see what the characters look like once they are finished.

2. Mater from Cars

I just drew my second character, Mater, from Cars. He looks great to me. The wires on the back of the towing part loom great and i thought I did his eyes pretty good. The skills I have had to learn how to use during this project are making the pictures very detailed. They look really great when they're detailed, but not as good when not detailed.

1. Sully from Monsters Inc.

Today I drew my first character. I drew Sully from Monsters Inc. It looks pretty good to me and hopefully it will to you guys, too. I am kind of afraid that I will not finish everything that I want to accomplish on this project before the due date. I wish that we could do it on more than just Fridays, but it is what it is.

My Project Proposal

Proposal: Sketches by Jacob
Sketches of Characters
Needs and Opportunities
This project is a passion of mine. I like to draw and to see what I’ve drawn later. This will be a growing experience for me because I will put my best effort into the drawings and see what I’m capable of. My goal is to have a lot of well drawn sketches by the time the project is due.
Audience / Clients / Users
I and other will benefit from this project. I will be able to practice my sketching skills and people will be able to enjoy looking at them. Anyone could be interesting in looking at my blog. I don’t think there could be anyone who hates looking at sketches.
Mentors
My mentors for this project could be websites that help me figure out how to draw certain things. I will not need to contact anyone to help me with this project.
Timeline
What is your monthly timeline for this project? I want to see a list of deliverables with deadlines. You may find that the timeline needs adjustment during the course of the year, which may be fine. Check in with me if that’s the case.

May 12 (Presentation Day)

Product
I will bring in a tri-fold or poster board with my sketches on it. The sketches will not have color but the board will.
Technology
For this project I will video a time lapse of me drawing one of my characters on my phone. I could then send this the Smart Board we will be using and show the video.
Reality Check
For this project I will need lots of pencils and paper. I will need a board for my presentation and some colors. The only cost I will have is the board.
Possible Roadblocks
A roadblock for me might be a disappointing sketch or maybe a missing sketch. If this happens I will just have to start over the sketch.
Conclusion

I am fired up about this project because I am excited to see what I can put on a piece of paper. I am excited to see what others think of my sketches.

Welcome

Welcome to my blog about my 20% time project. I will be sketching fictional characters and posting the sketches on here.
